Balancing that keeps up with Eurowind Energy
Eurowind Energy owns and operates renewable energy parks across 16 markets and ranks among Denmark's largest wind and PV developers. Reel is their balance responsible partner on an 18 MW combined wind and PV plant, forecasting output, trading day-ahead and intraday, and managing imbalance on a fixed balance price with a shared upside.

Customer: Eurowind Energy
Asset: 18 MW combined wind and PV plant, Denmark
Technology: Reel Balance, Reel Optimize
Certainty in the budget, agility in the partner
Every Eurowind park must stack up as an investment before it gets built, and some carry external investors who want numbers they can rely on years ahead. Reel is one of Eurowind Energy's balance responsible partners across the portfolio, and provides a fixed balancing price predictable enough to budget against. Beyond that, Eurowind wanted a balancing partner that was agile enough to quickly accommodate requests , and technical enough to accommodate new options as their portfolio develops.
Requests that turn into changes with a proactive partner
Reel is built without inherited systems: no legacy platforms to work around, and no long internal queue for a change request. A reality that benefits both Reel and Eurowind Energy.
Reel connected to Eurowind's control platform quickly and proactively, ahead of a go-live date that left little room. When Eurowind needed the invoicing to carry more detail for their own reporting, the format was reworked to match. And on how the turbines’ performance could be optimized, each side contributed complentary insights: Eurowind Energy, offered detailed knowledge of the turbines and their operational parameters, and Reel brought an understanding of market opportunities. Together, the companies identified settings that improved commercial performance while respecting the technical requirements of the assets.
"We have a central platform that all our partners connect into, and Reel was quick and proactive about getting that in place, even on a short timeline. They are agile and accommodating - when we need something, they make it happen."
- Klaus Fischer, Senior Originator Nordic, Eurowind Energy
The commercial structure provided by Reel is built for the same purpose. A fixed balance price gives predictability, and a profit share means both parties gain when the assets are optimized further.
In practice, that means Reel runs the balancing cycle end to end:
Forecasting and scheduling. Reel produces the production forecasts for the plant and turns them into the schedules submitted to the grid operator, updating them as the weather picture changes through the day.
Day-ahead and intraday trading. Expected output is sold in the day-ahead auction. The position is then adjusted on the intraday market as forecasts firm up closer to delivery, so what has been sold tracks what the plant is actually going to produce. When prices turn negative, production can be adjusted where commercially and technically appropriate.
Imbalance management. As their balance responsible party, Reel handles the gap between what was scheduled and what the plant delivers. The fixed balance price means Eurowind carries a known cost for that rather than the variance itself.
Performance visibility. Eurowind follows production, trading and market conditions through a live performance dashboard, so the trading side is visible as it happens rather than reported afterwards.
From service provider to advisor
Alongside the day-to-day balancing, the relationship has taken on an advisory dimension. Eurowind brings deep knowledge of its own assets and portfolio; Reel brings a trading view of where value is available across the market. Putting the two together has surfaced opportunities on assets that were already being run well, and given both sides more to work with when decisions get made.
"Reel's market insight complements ours. Together, we've gone after opportunities we wouldn't have pursued ourselves - and that has changed how we get value out of these assets."
- Klaus Fischer, Senior Originator Nordic, Eurowind Energy

Wind, solar and storage behind one connection
What Eurowind wants next says a lot about the partnership. They plan to integrate storage into their wind and solar parks, adding a new layer of complexity. Capturing the full value of storage requires a balancing partner capable of optimizing wind, solar and storage against the same market signals, and Eurowind has been explicit that it wants Reel on that journey.
"Hybrid parks are where the value in this market is heading, and they only work if one party is optimizing every technology behind the connection point against the same signals. That is the direction we are building in. Eurowind is the kind of partner that pushes us to get there faster."
- Bjarne Beck, Head of Power Solutions, Reel
