No time to waste
It’s difficult to watch global emissions rise year after year. On one hand, so much progress has been made, with renewable energy generating more electricity than ever. On the other, rising electricity demand is outpacing our ability to add more renewable energy, and as a result, fossil fuels remain the main source of global electricity production.
We are still far from the triple-fold growth in renewable energy science says we need to stave off the worse of climate change. For example, solar and wind energy growth needs to accelerate to 24% every year (starting now), up from its current 14% annual growth rate.
Accelerating renewable energy development. That’s the theme for the next decade.
At Reel, we enable companies of every size to partake in - and accelerate - the energy transition. We do this with Power Purchase Agreements, unique electricity contracts that ensure new renewable energy is built with companies’ purchase of electricity. These contracts are an important alternative to the ineffective system of ‘green’ certificates, which has little to no climate impact.
We also work with industry partners to bring together the widest variety of businesses for the same goal: accelerated renewable energy growth.
A new partnership to accelerate impact
Reel and Plastindustrien are partnering to bring Power Purchase Agreements to the plastics industry. Members of Plastindustrien will now gain access to a tailor-made electricity contract that creates new renewable energy, and offers fixed-prices for electricity.
Speaking about the new partnership, the CEO of Plastindustrien, Thomas Drustrup, says:
We are pleased to offer our members favorable conditions for purchasing electricity. And it's no coincidence that we chose a partner like Reel, as the green transition is increasingly important for us as a trade association. With the extensive new legislation on CO2 emissions reporting, sustainability is not just something we do for the planet. It has also become a competitive parameter. The cooperation with Reel, therefore, has the potential to add value to multiple bottom lines for our member companies.
Bi-Plast, a plastics company based in Svendborg and member of Plastindustrien, have chosen Reel as their electricity provider. For Production Manager Jette B. Nielsen, knowing that Bi-Plast’s electricity purchase would make a difference in the world was crucial. She adds:
We place great value on the fact that the electricity we buy is from renewable sources. As a company, we rent our premises and cannot install solar panels ourselves. Purchasing green certificates is not an option for us as we want to make a real difference in our electricity procurement. Reel also has a clear and easy-to-use platform where you can monitor your electricity consumption.
Uniting industries
As a next generation B2B renewable energy supplier, Reel is excited to provide new industries with impactful Power Purchase Agreements.
Jon Sigvert, CEO of Reel notes that:
Electricity production is one of the single largest sources of CO2 emissions, and companies account for the majority of the world's total electricity consumption. Until very recently, only the largest companies had been able to buy electricity in a way that directly ensures the construction of more renewable energy. With this partnership, we ensure that possibility for all plastic companies in Denmark, regardless of size.
Accelerating the energy transition will require we use all tools and collaborations at our disposal - it means doing everything, everywhere, all at once. We hope you’ll join us - as a customer or partner - to make it happen. Book a meeting to learn more.
