Reel appoints Jan-Christopher Klotz as Head of Germany to lead expansion in Europe's largest energy market
Reel, the renewable energy company helping businesses and renewable energy producers navigate volatile energy markets, today announced the hiring of Jan-Christopher Klotz as Head of Germany. The hire follows Reel's €15 million Series A round earlier this year, led by Future Energy Ventures (FEV), and marks a key step in the company's expansion into the German market.

Germany remains under significant pressure to accelerate its energy transition. To reach its target of 80% renewable electricity by 2030, the country needs to grow solar capacity by roughly 70% and onshore wind capacity by roughly 64% from current levels. Yet rising price volatility, uncertain project returns, and changing subsidies continue to complicate the picture for both renewable energy producers and businesses.
“Germany is Europe's largest energy market, but the business case for renewable energy is struggling. Solar capture rates hit a five-year low in 2025, and reduced subsidies are pushing producers toward PPAs to secure revenue. Meanwhile, corporate energy buyers are facing growing price volatility, with events like Dunkelflaute hitting the bottom line hard. I'm excited to join Reel to help both sides navigate the energy market’s growing complexity — and accelerate Germany's energy transition.”
Jan-Christopher Klotz, Head of Germany, Reel
"The scale of energy transition required in Germany is enormous, and the window to get it right is narrow. Jan brings exactly the deep energy market expertise we need to scale what we've proven in Denmark: a model that makes renewable energy profitable for producers and predictable for businesses."
Jon Sigvert, CEO of Reel
Jan-Christopher Klotz joins Reel from Zelestra - an EQT backed IPP - where, as CCO, he was responsible for all revenue streams of the German business such as Tolling Agreements, PPAs and the EEG bidding strategy. During his time, he helped sign the largest German hybrid PPA with Salzgitter AG, a major German steel producer. In his role at Reel, Jan will lead Reel's commercial growth in Germany, building out the local team and deepening relationships with energy producers and industrial offtakers across the country.
Reel already works with German producers including Blue Elephant Energy and greenwind, and plans to grow its portfolio and commercial presence in the country following its Series A raise.
