Reel is B Corp certified
Our mission to accelerate the energy transition has always been more than a statement. It guides how we make decisions, where we focus our time and resources, and the choices we make along the way. With B Corp certification, we now have an external framework to help us measure and improve our impact.
Reel was founded to accelerate the energy transition - by strengthening the impact, stability, and economic value of renewable energy for businesses and energy producers.
Decarbonizing the electricity system is at the core of our business model. In the spring of 2024, we decided to have this ambition tested, challenged and held to account by an external framework: B Corp. We knew that doing so would introduce constraints, scrutiny and higher expectations. And now - a year and a half later - Reel is the first electricity provider in Denmark to achieve B Corp certification.
How we were assessed
Becoming a certified B Corp required a legal commitment to stakeholder governance. In practice, this means that Reel is legally required to consider the impact of its actions on all stakeholders - helping ensure our standards endure beyond any single leadership team.
We were also assessed across five impact areas, resulting in stronger, more formalized practices:
Environment
Transparency and accountability guide our climate work. We publish our emissions data, encourage environmental stewardship in our office, and have formalised a climate justice policy that prioritises SME and local participation in our additional PPA projects. We track new metrics, such as the share of local participants in PPAs, and integrate just-transition themes into company-wide leadership communications.
Customers
We assess the outcomes our customers achieve through our products, and continuously improve based on feedback. To support trust and transparency, we’ve introduced an ethical marketing policy, ensuring our claims reflect reality.
Community
Beyond our core operations, we contribute to public dialogue and research on the energy transition as well as screening suppliers for social and environmental impact, to help raise the bar in our broader ecosystem.
Workers
We support our team’s wellbeing and development through concrete policies. This includes flexible working hours, a learning budget for every employee, formal 360-degree feedback, and opportunities for lateral moves or changes in career pace.
Governance
Social and environmental responsibility is embedded into how we lead and make decisions. We track impact-related goals and maintain a code of conduct, whistleblower guidelines, and ethics-focused risk assessments.
What this means
The B Corp Certification doesn’t mean we have everything figured out. It shows that we’re willing to be transparent, learn, and held to account - while we keep raising the bar.
The energy and electricity sector is undergoing profound and rapid transformation. It operates through complex value chains - from project development and stakeholder involvement to energy market design and certificate systems - and is driven by large capital investments and long-term infrastructure decisions.
B Corp guides our decision-making in this evolving landscape. At the same time, we recognise that the framework doesn’t always reflect the specific realities and impact levers of energy companies - as is natural for a cross-industry certification.
Our commitment is therefore not just to meet the standard, but also to engage with it - and where necessary, push for more clarity and ambition so that it better supports the kind of energy system the planet needs.
